Students involved in awareness event

17 February, 2008

Witnessing a dramatic mock road traffic collision is just one of the activities a group of students will get involved in at an awareness event next week.

Fifty students from Eastwood Comprehensive School and the Prince’s Trust will visit Beeston Fire Station on Wednesday 20th February to learn about road traffic collisions (RTCs), how to prevent them and how the emergency services help when they happen.

Realistic Demonstration

The 15 and 16 year olds will watch victims being cut free from a crash in a realistic demonstration carried out by the Specialist Rescue Team from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and the Casualties Union.

They will learn about the different aspects of RTCs from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and other partners across the county, including Nottinghamshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire County Council.

The RTC awareness day was organised by Broxtowe District’s Community Safety Advocate, Jane Underwood. She said; “People in this age group are statistically more likely to be involved in a collision. This course will teach them all about RTCs, which will hopefully reduce the risk for them.”
