Jonathan Rea returns to British Championship action - though only on a one-off basis - as he races his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda on a ‘wild-card’ ticket to ride entry into fourth round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship race at Donington Park on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, May 26.
The race provides an ideal opportunity for him to prepare under racing conditions for the forthcoming round of the World Supersport championship to be held at the Leicestershire circuit in September.
Winning Style
Rea, the runner-up in last year’s chase for the Bennetts British Superbike crown will be aiming to turn on the winning style, having come close to victory on the World stage at Assen although his team-mate, the former World Champion Andrew Pitt will have a big say in the outcome of this race just as he did in Holland.
The Aussie is a strong performer but has lacked consistency. He has won races at Philip Island and Assen and taken a fourth at Monza but failed to finish the other two – Pitt will be using this race to good effect to ensure he has everything together for what could be a crucial late season race in his title aspirations.
World Series Regular
They will be facing another World series regular, Craig Jones, aboard the Parkalgar Honda and he will aiming to emulate his winning send off from British Supersport action of three years ago when he gave Triumph their first victory of that campaign in the final round here.
They face strong challenges from the series regulars – the three rounds so far have produced three different winners. Steve Brogan for HM Plant Honda, Glen Richards on the MAP Embassy Triumph and Hudson Kennaugh on the Raceways Yamaha.
The Supersport race is part of a big Holiday Monday sporting programme that features the fourth round of the country’s premier series, the Bennett British Superbike Championship.
