Talking Music

07 February, 2008

talking-music A PhD student has been talking to Music students at Beeston’s Castle College to help him in his research.

Adam Lonsdale, 25 from West Bridgford, is completing a PhD in the Social Psychology of Music.

Adam’s first Degree was in Psychology and is completing his PhD through Herriot Watt University near Edinburgh, which is looking into the reasons why people listen to music.

Collating Information

He is collating his information through a questionnaire using subjects of different ages, from 16-80, looking into the emotional, cultural and social importance of music.

Adam has approached a number of educational establishments, hoping to conduct the research with their students.

Castle College’s Divisional Head for Music, Andy Kettlewell was happy for him to talk to students taking Music courses.

Adam said: “Music is something that we spend so much time and money on, and I have always been interested why.

“When you ask people why they listen to music, they can never come up with an answer straight away.

”Really Helpful”

“It’s really helpful to me that Andy has let me come in and talk to Castle College students.

“It’s great that the College offers so many Music courses, as any opportunity to develop an interest and learn is important.”

Adam would ultimately like to be a university lecturer.
