MP calls for support for Beeston Victim

22 August, 2007

Nick Palmer the MP for Broxtowe is urging people to show support for a Beeston man after he became a victim of a racial attack.

Mr Choudhury runs Radhuni Tandoori on Bath Street, Ilkeston and earlier this month the windows of his restaurant were smashed and he was assaulted.

Police arrested two youths and charged them with racially aggravated assault.

It is the second time the mild-mannered Mr Choudhury has been attacked – the first incident happened when he ran the Beeston Tandoori Restaurant.

Nick Palmer said: “I've known Mr Choudhury for years. He is really only interested in running a good restaurant and seeing his kids get a good education and it's obviously unnerving for him to be picked on in this way.

“He dislikes extremism of all kinds, and once donated an entire week's takings to charity.

“The restaurant is excellent, so I just wanted to suggest that if you ever eat out, you might choose to go there, and tell him you sympathise.
