New recruits join Fire and Rescue Service
29 February, 2008
The course is the first phase of formal training for the recruits and completion of it marks their first successful steps to becoming fully qualified fire-fighters.
Basic competencies
It is designed to equip the fire-fighters with the basic competencies needed to work on a fire station, to begin responding to emergency calls and to start their education and promotion work in the community.
It includes training in hose and ladder drills, breathing apparatus, road traffic collisions, hazardous materials and community safety.
Passing Out Ceremony
During a special passing out ceremony at the Service Development Centre in Ollerton, the recruits demonstrated some of the fire-fighting and rescue skills they have learnt to family, friends and colleagues before being presented with a number of awards.
These included the Institute of Fire Engineers Preliminary Certificate, First Responder and First Aid at Work certificates, a Road Traffic Collision Certificate and end of course certificate.
Probation Period
They will continue their learning and development on station throughout an 18-month probation period.
When they have successfully completed their first 12 months probation, they will be offered a permanent position with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and their training and assessment will continue.
Of the 10 new recruits, two are stationed at Central Fire Station, two at Dunkirk, one at Arnold, one at Carlton, one at Beeston, one at Stockhill, one at Mansfield and one at Retford.
