Toseland checks out Donington

02 June, 2008

toseland-checks-out-donington James Toseland was checking out the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit last week in preparation for his long awaited appearance at the bwin.com British Grand Prix on Sunday, June 22.

The current World Superbike Champion will make his one and only racing appearance in Britain this year at the eighth round of the 18 round MotoGP at the 2.50 mile Parkland circuit.

The 27-year-old Yorkshireman has made a massive impact in his debut MotoGP season battling with the likes of Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo from the very first grand prior of the season under the floodlights in Qatar.

Only British Appearance

His one and only British appearance riding the Tech 3 Yamaha, will be a very special event for both Toseland and success-starved British race fans.

“I can’t wait to get to Donington to race a MotoGP machine for the first time in front of those fantastic home fans,” said Toseland speaking between practice sessions for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello this weekend. “It’s a great circuit and for once I don’t have to learn it. I know where I’m going right from the start.”

Never Won

A British rider has never won a Premier class British Grand Prix since it switched to the mainland from the TT Circuit in the Isle of Man in 1977.

The last British rider to win a premier class grand prix was the late Barry Sheene and that was 27 years ago in Sweden. The last British rider to finish on a premier class podium was Ulsterman Jeremy McWilliams when he was third at the 2000 British Grand Prix at Donington, riding the Aprilia.

The time is right for the history books to be re-written on Sunday June 22.
