Tourism students get a taste of Marrakesh
18 March, 2008
Students studying Travel and Tourism at Castle College’s Beeston Campus have taken part in some practical coursework!Twenty-four students on the 2nd year of the BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism took part in an adventure in Marrakesh, Morocco.
”Engage the learners”
Travel and Tourism Lecturer, Sally Plastow said: “The aim of the visit was to engage the learners with tourism in action, experience a completely different culture and to find out more about the life of a tour guide in order to support their studies at College.
“We had a full itinerary which included guided cultural tours around the Medina, exploring the Bahia Palace and Saadian Tombs and of the labyrinth of the souks (involving lots of bartering and bargaining).”
Insight
A jeep safari into the Atlas Mountains offered the chance to see a very different way of life and a talk from the tour company guide gave an insight into their role and responsibilities.
The learners also took in the Marjorelle Gardens, which are owned by the Yves Saint Laurent foundation, and a traditional Moroccan night out at Borg Bladi Fantasia, which involved lots of dancing and traditional food!
