Public Inquiry into Beeston Tram Proposals

16 July, 2007

A public inquiry into the expansion of the Nottingham tram system will take place in November.

Both Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council want to build a second route from the city centre to the south of the city in Clifton, Chilwell and Beeston, but the plans have been met with mixed reaction.

However, the public inquiry which will take place over a six week period, is a chance for people to have their say on the proposals and will be carried out by the Planning Inspectorate.

The application for the tram expansion was filed in April and a decision on whether the proposals will go ahead is likely to take around 18 months.

Construction on the extension is due to start in 2010 and to be completed by 2013 at a cost of more than £400m.
