Update on M1 Roadworks

29 March, 2008

update-m1-roadworks-13 The layout of the M1 northbound and southbound carriageway has been changed between Junction 27 and Junction 26 with the introduction of narrow lanes, no hard shoulder and a 24-hour 50mph speed limit for the safety of drivers and roadworkers.

The M1 northbound between Junctions 26 and 27 will be reduced to one lane from 9pm on Wednesday, April 2, until 5am the following morning.

The southbound carriageway between the same junctions will also be reduced to one lane from 9pm on Thursday, April 3, until 5am the following morning.

To limit any delays to drivers the Highways Agency will be keeping three lanes open in each direction during the day, and will not be using a contra-flow.

The M1 widening scheme is expected to continue until autumn 2010. The aim of the scheme is to reduce congestion and reduce accidents. Below are details of current works as part of this scheme.
