Specs Appeal for Vision Aid

06 February, 2008

vision-overseas-specs-appeal Old pairs of specs are needed by a charity to send to help people with poor eyesight in the developing world.

Opticians at Beeston’s Vision Care Centre are supporting the Vision Aid Overseas project and are trying to collect as many pairs of old glasses as possible.

These are then cleaned and assessed before being sent overseas to people in developing countries who simply need a pair of spectacles to lead a normal life.

Lives blighted by poor eyesight

Vision Aid Overseas, supported by the Kodak Lens Second Sight Project, is a charity dedicated to helping people in the developing world whose lives are blighted by poor eyesight, particularly where spectacles can help.

It works by sending abroad teams of volunteer optometrists and dispensing opticians who set up clinics, screen large number of patients and provide appropriate spectacles.

Started in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has provided 600,000 eye tests and given 300,000 people the ability to see with a pair of specs.

”Transforming lives”

Tym Marsh, Director of Vision Aid Overseas, said: “Vision Aid Overseas is transforming the lives of thousands of patients each year, but there are still many more to reach!

“By supporting the Kodak Lens Second Sight Project, you will have the opportunity to help the world to see.”

To donate your old spectacles, visit the Vision Care Centre at 90 High Road, Beeston, NG9 2LF.
