Warning after burglars target elderly - Posted on: 21 March, 2008
Police are urging elderly residents in south Nottinghamshire to be extra vigilant after burglars targeted two pensioners’ homes.
Most recently a gang of burglars entered an old person’s residential complex in Bramcote at around 4.35pm Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
The offenders then accessed a block of flats, before ringing the intercom to alert an 86-year-old woman.
When the pensioner answered her door one man pushed her against the wall and held his hand over her mouth, while at least two other men searched her house.
Emergency Cord
While being manhandled the woman managed to pull an emergency cord, which alerted the Warden, and the offenders immediately fled.
Four white males in their early teens were seen shortly after the attack, running away from the premises and towards Ewe Lamb Lane, Bramcote.
One of the males is described as 5ft tall, of slim build, with a slim face and short very dark hair, who was wearing a blue tracksuit.
Following the burglary the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution, where she remains in a stable condition.
Detective Inspector Stuart McHattie wants residents to contact Nottinghamshire Police if they spot any kind of suspicious activity.
”Lasting and damaging impression”
He said: “Crimes such as these, which affect some of the community’s most vulnerable people, are horrendous for the victim and can leave a lasting and damaging impression.
“Unfortunately burglars like these target all residents, but specifically elderly residents and are intent on stealing valuables.
“Officers treat this type of crime very seriously and urge anyone who has any information to contact Nottinghamshire Police.”
