M1 widening could start by October

14 August, 2007

Work to widen the M1 between J25 and J28 could start as soon as October.

Transport Minister, Ruth Kelly, has given the final go ahead for works to proceed and details of the contractor are due to be published.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: The Minister has given a decision to proceed with the widening of the M1 between J25 and J28.

“Work on this section is expected to start in Late October 2007.”

Contract 1 runs from Junction 25 to Junction 28 and will see the conversion of the hard shoulder into a running lane to create four lanes and add a new hard shoulder wherever possible.

The works in Contract 1 have been designed to provide early congestion relief to approximately 23km of motorway between Sandiacre (Junction 25) and Pinxton (Junction 28).
