Reward offered after attempted robbery at Trowell Post Office

14 April, 2009

A reward is being offered to help catch two men wanted in connection with a number of Post Office robberies.

On Thursday, April 2, a man wearing motorcycle leathers and a crash helmet entered Trowell Post Office, Stapleford Road, Trowell, around 3.55pm threatening staff with a shotgun before stealing money.

He left the store and made off on a motorbike, with a second man.

On Monday, April 6, around 11am a man targeted Bleasby Post Office in a similar way, demanding money and threatening staff with a weapon. Again the suspect made off with money on a high-powered motorbike ridden by another man.

Both were wearing leathers and crash helmets.

Earlier incident

This followed an earlier incident, when around 9.15am on Monday, April 6, two men on a motorbike were seen acting suspiciously near the Awsworth Post Office. A member of the public informed staff and precautions were taken to prevent the offence.

A £3,000 reward is now being offered by the Post Office for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

A Post Office Ltd spokesperson said: “Thankfully these are still extremely rare incidents. We are working with police and would urge anyone with information to contact them.”

”Keen to identify the offenders”

Detective Sergeant Rick Jones, of Newark CID, said: “Fortunately no one has been injured during these robberies, but we are keen to identify the offenders before this happens again.

“We hope that the reward acts as an incentive for people to come forward with information to help us bring these men to justice.”

Anyone who with information about the robberies or who witnessed the incidents is asked to contact Newark CID on 0115 9670999 ext 7637, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
